ABOUT ME

Partnering with Purpose

Since 2001, I’ve been providing school psychological services in Central California.  I have had the opportunity to work with students ranging in age from birth to 22 years with various learning strengths and needs.  I also work with adults who have educationally-relevant needs.  I have extensive experience in psychoeducational evaluation, functional behavioral assessment, and intervention.  I am a Nationally Certified School Psychologist as well as a Licensed Educational Psychologist.  I have experience working as a Special Education Principal and as a Special Education Program Specialist.

In 2016, I was appointed to the Dyslexia Guidelines Workgroup at the California Department of Education; I was very honored to work with a fantastic group of professionals as we developed our state guidelines related to the identification of, and intervention for, students with dyslexia.  In 2020, I also served on the CDE Advisory Commission regarding Restraint and Seclusion of students.

My mission is to partner with families, schools, and community agencies to foster understanding and acceptance of learning and social-emotional needs in order to facilitate growth for students.

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT

These assessments help to determine learning strengths and needs as well as eligibility for Special Education services (ages 3 - 22 years), Section 504 Accommodations (Preschool through College), and GATE services (K-12).  Results can also be used to determine eligibility for accommodations on college entrance exams.

  • Academic skill development

  • Visual processing

  • Auditory processing

  • Sensorimotor functioning

  • Memory and learning

  • Attention

  • Executive functioning

  • Adaptive skill development

  • Social-emotional functioning

INDEPENDENT EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

When a parent disagrees with a school district's assessment findings, they have the right to request an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE), which is an evaluation of their child's skills and needs by someone who is not employed by that school district.

Important facts about IEEs:

  • An IEE is provided at public expense, meaning it is provided at no cost to the parent, so long as expected procedures are followed.

  • Many districts or SELPAs have documented procedures for requesting an IEE.

  • Many districts or SELPAs have lists of qualified Independent Evaluators available upon request, though these lists likely don't include every qualified evaluator in the area.

  • The ultimate selection of the Independent Examiner rests with the parent(s), not the district.

  • A district must consider the results of an IEE, but is not required to accept the findings.

FAQ

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

No, not at this time.  Clients pay for services when rendered.  I can prepare what is called a Super Bill that my clients can submit to their insurance companies to see if they can be reimbursed.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE?

My rate for assessment, educational counseling, and consultation is $150.00 per hour.  A sliding scale is available for families who demonstrate financial need.

WHAT IS YOUR FEE FOR AN IEE?

I do my best to honor SELPA/District guidelines for cost limitations.  I am taking new cases.
